Bucking the trend of cancelled events, boutique Shopshire folk festival Beardy Folk Festival is going ahead with a Covid-safe policy in place, and Fromthewhitehouse artists are prominent in the billing.

Friday sees the dynamic  Harbottle & Jonas Trio take to the stage with songs from their most recent album ‘The Sea is My Brother’. Festival goers can enjoy David & Freya’s partnership of distinctive solo voices and close harmonies with concertina, harmonium, cittern, stomp box and acoustic guitar, plus sensitive fiddle and harmonies from Annie Baylis, all of which makes for a perfect start to the festival vibes for the weekend ahead.

Newcomers to the Fromthewhitehouse stable Julu Irvine & Heg Brignall are appearing on Saturday with their evocative songs that take inspiration from strong female characters in history, mythology and personal experience. With their wonderful chemistry and charisma on stage, natural humour and beautifully matched voices, Julu & Heg’s set promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend.

Sunday’s lineup perfectly encapsulates the diverse talent on Fromthewhitehouse’s books, as internationally-renowned singer/songwriter Charlie Dore, and critically-acclaimed instrumentalists The Ciderhouse Rebellion help close what is bound to be a fantastic weekend of music.

The Charlie Dore Trio features long-term collaborator Julian Litman and double bass player Gareth Huw Davies, and takes her exquisitely crafted songs and expands their scope with as many as ten instruments played on stage.

With Charlie’s most recent album ‘Like Animals’ receiving positive reviews across the board with Fatea describing it as “another master-class in song-writing”, the trio’s set promises an aural delight to all those who admire musicianship, lyrical craft, and songwriting excellence.

The Ciderhouse Rebellion’s brand of improvised instrumental folk draws on the deep well of musicianship and experience that embodies both Master accordionist Murray Grainger and ‘Paganini of the folk world’ fiddle player Adam Summerhayes.

Creating music entirely in the moment, no two performances are the same, making each unique collaboration both unrepeatable and unmissable.

Beardy Folk festival is held at Hopton Court, Shropshire from the 17th to the 20th September 2020.
